November 7, 2007 - Testing on patented linear fluorescents prepares PureSpectrum, Inc. for product launch

November 7th, 2007

SAVANNAH, GA – Linear fluorescent lighting continued its pattern of steady growth during the past few years to account for more than $400 million in sales in 2006, and PureSpectrum, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PSPM) is taking another important step toward introducing its innovative ballast design to this rapidly expanding market segment.

Since 2003, sales of T5 fluorescent lamps has climbed from 10 million units to 21.5 million units and sales of T8 lamps has increased from 172 million to 234 million. Last week PureSpectrum commissioned independent testing on a patented flicker-free, energy efficient T4 lamp powered by the company’s proprietary circuitry technology which could represent a major breakthrough for manufacturers of linear fluorescent products.

Linear fluorescent lamps are the thin, tubular lights which illuminate schools, office buildings, retail stores and most other commercial and industrial settings. The bulbs are manufactured in many different sizes and wattages to fit a variety of uses for these multipurpose products which ranges from small under-cabinet lights in residential settings to clusters of overhead lighting in commercial or industrial settings.

According to data from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), lighting accounts for nearly 30 percent of the energy usage in non-residential buildings and more than 60 percent of the energy usage in retail facilities. Much of that lighting is provided by linear fluorescent tubes, and as a result, manufacturers are constantly searching for more energy efficient products in order to gain a competitive advantage with commercial, industrial and retail end users.

PureSpectrum, which owns a family of patents and patent applications for improved electronic ballast technology and circuitry designs, is preparing to engage in initial discussions with contract manufacturers concerning the production of the T4 product line. The company, which is projecting that its T4 lamp design will be very cost effective to manufacture, is testing its 8-inch and 12-inch T4 lamps powered by PureSpectrum’s proprietary ballast electronics against off-the-shelf brand name lamps from Lowe’s and Amertac.

Photometric testing on PureSpectrum’s T4 lamp performed within the past year revealed that PureSpectrum’s linear fluorescents earn high grades on the Color Rendering Index (CRI) scale for light quality and operate 30 percent more energy efficiently than the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Star standards.

PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta said his company is striving to reduce energy usage for linear fluorescents through the use of superior electronics within the lamp’s ballast circuitry.

“Linear fluorescent manufacturers want to be able to sell lower energy bills to their customers by providing more energy efficient artificial lighting,” said PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta. “By being able to offer these manufacturers a patented, viable product which promotes energy conservation we put PureSpectrum in a position to generate immediate revenue and demonstrate proof of concept for our technology in both residential and commercial environments.”
